Late Night Guitar
Thanks Eoghan. I'll be picking up some Phil Ochs next time I'm shopping for tunes! I have too often been watching and playing along with the great D.A. Pennebaker film "Don't Look Back" that's recently been rereleased as the boxed 65 Tour Edition including a great little scopitone book. You know that kind of book where you flick the pages and animate a little movie. Playing along late at night you can get a little moody ay?
And for another sonic experience of a very different sort, one of the very few examples of "New Age" music that I find has staying power, I recommend Sylvan Grey's "Ice Flowers Melting: Music For Kantele, The Finnish Folk Zither. This is modern, impressionistic music. There is nothing "folk" about it, but it is music that will transport you. I first came across this album around 20 years ago. My original cassette recording of it long ago wore out. A couple of months ago, I found it available through the iTunes store, and it is available on CD through Amazon, and maybe elsewhere.
In any case, since it's on iTunes, you can hear a sample and see if you agree!
